If you happen to have a 'design your own ceramic' studio in your city, I encourage you to go. Where I live, there's a ceramic cafe where people can gather with friends, family or by themselves to eat and drink while painting your own ceramic. I went with a couple of my friends and we ended up staying there for six hours! We first went to choose our desired ceramic from dozens and dozens of options, from mugs to plates to piggy banks and cartoon characters. I chose a big (read huge) latte cup as I wanted a big round surface for the design I had in mind.

Then you map out the design on the ceramic in pen (the markings don't show up once the ceramic has been cooked) and paint over it using the ceramic paint. The design I originally had in mind was much more complicated than what I ended up going with because of lack of time.

| Don't mind the coffee grounds. I don't actually drink coffee so I just put a bit for effect but obviously it didn't work. |
These pieces also make for a great personal present if you care to spend a bit of time on it. I'm sorry I don't have any more pictures; I made this cup before I started this blog so I wasn't thinking of taking pictures for each step but the process is pretty self-explanatory. I had originally thought to use this as a soup bowl but now it's a handy catch-all for random knickknacks.
